For a lot of business owners, CEO’s, and C-Suite executives marketing has become a negative term. It’s unfortunate because without marketing your business has very little chance to grow, let alone survive in this competitive marketplace we live in. You’ve been over-promised and under-delivered. You may have even felt burned by a marketing agency.
Marketing in the past was viewed as “just gotta do it” approach with not much strategy or creativity implemented. Do what your competitors are doing and you’ll be just fine.
Those days are gone!
Now it’s all about growth marketing. What I mean is every penny you invest in marketing should have a growth goal tagged to it. Then strategies are implemented, tested, tweaked and tracked for performance (ROI). This is the “new normal” for businesses who want to compete and win today.
What Is Growth Marketing
Growth marketing is implementing strategies geared to bring in more revenues, but you do it more in a testing/experiment environment. What I mean is as a growth marketer we don’t 100% know if any of these will be the home run you want for your business, but we will be tracking each strategy (experiment) with data, and the numbers don’t lie.
Why would you invest in experimenting as a business owner?
You may be thinking it is crazy to invest in growth marketing, but the question you should ask yourself is, “is what we are doing now getting us the results we want and need?”
If after running that question by your team, the answer is no, then you’ve got to do something different. If you don’t, you’ll keep getting the same results, or possibly results that are on a downward trend.
Focus On The Entire Marketing Funnel
While most marketing professionals only focus on the top of the funnel, growth marketers focus on the entire funnel. Growth marketers are constantly tinkering with ads, tweaking website pages and testing hypotheses, all in the interest of increasing dollars generated by any means possible.
Paying attention to user-experience all the way through any marketing funnel will produce the most accurate data to then analyze, tweak and implement changes if needed. Can you see how this approach will be much more effective than the standard, old marketing approach which focuses only on the top of the funnel?
Growth marketers are harvesting valuable information that can drive decision-making on the highest level.
- Funnel analysis
- A/B testing
- Surveys
- And other tests.
Should You Hire A Growth Marketer
Now the question comes down to what are your business goals and desires? Do you have a strong desire for growth? Are you open to change? Are you comfortable with testing and investing in marketing strategies that may or may not work? But you’ll have data you’ve never had before. 9 strategies may not work, but the 10th one could possibly double or triple your business.
You are either the owner of your business. The CEO. The President. You can determine the trajectory and path and ultimately the outcome. Here’s a phrase I use a lot that is relevant to this topic.
