In my consulting career, I’ve worked with a lot of growth-driven, male CEOs and business owners to get their health, mind and business moving in the right direction. Because of this, I speak to them daily and hear their frustrations. I can feel their stress. Many of them have the weight of a company and their families on their shoulders and yet they feel alone, with no help or guidance. Does this sound like you?
I just got off a call with a man that felt beaten down and really no where to turn, and that is what prompted me to write this article. It got me thinking of how critical it is for men like him to get help and guidance. I’m not talking about a “life coach” but a mentor, advisor, confidant to give the advice he needs to feel a sense of purpose and success moving forward.
I want to give you some tips and strategies to get out of this rut you may be in, and wake up every day with a zest for life. Life is too short to live it in mediocrity. It’s time to “strap it on” and “own your outcome.” You don’t need empathy and compassion in my opinion. You need a kick in the ass to get out of your head.
Men Are Alone
It’s sad but the majority of men feel alone. We were raised to “be tough” and “deal with it.” In some ways I agree with this, but the other side of that is men need a safe haven to bond, inspire and motivate each other. To my knowledge there aren’t many resources out there just for men. When you have testosterone running through your body, it’s primal to need to be around testosterone to not only survive but thrive in this very competitive world we live in.
You are the 5 people you hang around the most, so choose wisely. It may be time to dump your immediate circle and seek out other men you aspire to be like that can support you in your goals.
Get Your Health Right!
I can’t yell this loud enough from the rooftops! If you don’t have your health you have nothing! Yup…I stand by that statement. If you are overweight, unhealthy and stressed, you are a walking time bomb. Do not think that it can’t happen to you if you are under 40. It can! I’ve seen it firsthand. Do not ever take your health for granted! You only have ONE life, so don’t abuse it. Cherish it by taking care if your body.
Your body and mind are one. They need to be in sync. They need to work harmoniously 24 hours a day. When you wake up if you see an overweight man in the mirror don’t be delusional and think you look okay. Don’t use age as an EXCUSE! Don’t compare yourself to family, friends, peers and co-workers. We are one of the fattest countries in the world. Your comparisons are not valid.
First thing in the morning…NO EXCUSE!
Put your shoes, shorts and shirt to the side of the bed so when you get out of bed, your feet literally land on top of your shoes. When you do this, your mind will not allow you to bullshit yourself. You will put on the shoes and clothes and get moving! This is critical. If you don’t prioritize this first thing in the morning you will not do it! I’ve seen it a million times with my previous fitness clients, and the business clients I consult with now.
You are what you eat!
Do NOT eat crap! Skip fast food! Skip processed foods! Cut back on the alcohol. And cut your portions of food in half…immediately!
Do NOT go on a diet! If diets worked there would be ONE! Not a new one coming out every damn day!
Do NOT eat after 7pm. If you do, no carbs, and make it a light meal so you are not going to bed on a full stomach.
Get Your Mind Right!
As I mentioned earlier, your mind and body are ONE! You have to work on them both to get everything you want in your life and for your family. Mindset is huge when it comes to growth and success. You should be listening to audios when you commute, workout, or even going on a short walk around your neighborhood. This will feed your mind with positive, growth and self awareness to move forward and go get what you DESIRE!
So you may be thinking I’ve heard all of this before. Then I ask you…ARE YOU DOING IT?
If you are not taking action on a daily basis you will not see results. Get your mind and body right FIRST and everything else will fall into place.
