As a business owner or CEO you are driven to make your company a success. Or, at least I hope you are. With that comes an immense amount of pressure to perform in all aspects of your business.
The 6 million dollar question is…who do you turn to for help to grow your revenues and take your business to the next level? If you are a smaller business in the $1M-$3M range you most likely have tried marketing agencies or even more specifically marketers who specialize in say Google or Facebook advertising.
Does this sound familiar?
If it does, how did that approach work for you? Did it take your business (company) to the next level and keep you there? Or did it drain your bank account with no real results to speak of?
Unfortunately I hear the latter more times than not. When you take a shotgun approach to your business growth you are staying on the “tactical” side and not the more important “strategic” side of revenue growth.
What’s The Difference Between A Coach, Consultant And Advisor
For you as the business owner/CEO what you need may vary depending on the stage of your company and both your profession (and personal) goals and needs.
What Is A Business Coach?
A business coach will assist and guide the business owner in growing a business by helping them clarify the vision of their business and how it fits in with their personal goals. Business coaching is a process used to take a business from where it is now to where the business owner wants it to be.
A big part of this coaching relationship like any coach is accountability. Are you the type of person who needs or wants to be held accountable? If so, then some form or hybrid of a business coach will be a good fit for you.
What Is A Business Consultant?
A business consultant is an individual with a wide array of skills through education and previous experience, assisting business owners with their endeavors. In addition, business consultants provide management consulting to help organizations improve their performance and efficiency.
These professionals analyze businesses and create solutions while also helping companies meet their goals. Business owners should consider hiring business consultants when they need help or perspective on their chosen path or a catalyst for change in their companies.
What Is A Business Advisor?
A business advisor who provides clients with expertise in various aspects of business, such as development, management or financial security. They often work directly with business owners on developing a business plan, identifying marketing needs and enhancing the skill set necessary for company ownership. Advisors often have a strong background in business management and may have experience in many departments, including finance, sales, operations and marketing.
Now you’ve seen the difference between business coach, consultant and advisor. Which one fits your needs the best?
Without adding too much confusion, I’m going to throw one more area of expertise in the mix…
Business Growth Strategist
I’m a big believer in business strategy for ultimate growth. We’ve mentioned above the strategic approach as opposed to tactical. Strategy is the foundation to your business growth. Without strategy you are shooting in the dark with tactics.
A business growth strategist will do an audit of your business from a sales and marketing standpoint, along with your customer journey, customer experience and marketing channels.
Focusing on market penetration, market development, and product (service) development, the business growth strategist will set the strategy to move the needle forward in all of these critical areas of your business.
